On Monday, September 20th, 2022, TekRevol conducted a flood relief drive at its Karachi office to help flood affectees in Pakistan cope with the devastating flood disasters.
With over one-third of Pakistan severely affected by the recent flood, millions of those affectees need food and shelter, especially in Sindh, where people are sleeping in the open amidst high dengue cases.
Reports say that over 1500 people died (including children) and that 33 million people were affected by this recent catastrophe.
Helping the flood affectees
TekRevol conducted a week-long, on-campus flood relief drive under the umbrella of Revol Impact, encouraging employees to participate in this noble cause. Donation boxes were set up across the premises where employees could donate cash and their belongings like clothing and relevant accessories.
Some employees pledged a percentage of their salaries, while others donated cash and other necessities. Together, TekRevolutionaries managed to raise a sum of PKR 350,000 through this initiative, which was later used to procure ration boxes for the flood affectees.
Ration boxes were delivered to the head office of the Al Khidmat Foundation on September 20th, 2022. The boxes included everything from everyday grocery items to sanitation products and medicines.
Blood donation drive
Later that week, on Friday, September 23rd, 2022, TekRevol collaborated with the Indus Hospital blood center to conduct a blood donation drive to cater to the upsurging dengue cases in Karachi, especially near the zones of flood relief camps.
Pakistan is undergoing a post-floods dengue fever epidemic. A total of over 2150 severe dengue cases have been reported this month in the city, with four dead from this vector-borne viral disease.
This increasing number of dengue patients has created a scarcity in blood supply. It is alarming as Pakistan is among the highest thalassemia-burden countries, with over 100,000 thalassemia patients dependent on blood transfusion.
To address this issue and spread awareness about thalassemia and upsurging dengue cases, we set up a blood donation camp on the rooftop where Mr. Taimoor from the Indus Hospital, along with his team, guided every blood donor about the procedure and its benefits.
Despite challenging routines and deadlines, TekRevolutionaries actively participated in the blood donation drive throughout the day, and the Indus Hospital team collected blood bags.
Since most of our departments operate on the hybrid model, over forty percent of our team worked from home and couldn’t donate blood this time. However, the Indus Hospital will soon revisit TekRevol for another blood donation drive later this year.
Al Khidmat Foundation
Al Khidmat Foundation is Pakistan’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to humanitarian services for the last 30 years. They are globally recognized for their charity work services, including disaster management, health services, education, orphan care, clean water, Mawakhat (interest-free loans), and much more.
Indus Hospital Blood Center
The Indus Hospital blood center was inaugurated in October 2013 to provide safe and secure blood to patients. It is Pakistan’s first consolidated blood bank to provide a safe and continuous blood supply to thalassemia patients in Pakistan who can’t afford a transfusion now and then.
